O espaço actualmente tem uma zona verde envolvente bastante bonita, e o facto deste edifício ter aparecido sem se estar a contar…causou logo mais sensação! E, apesar do gosto que se tem por estes lugares, ao mesmo tempo dá alguma pena, pois podia ser um espaço melhor aproveitado quer a nível religioso, quer a sua zona envolvente para motivos de lazer!

Há dias ao efectuar um passeio a pé pela margem do rio Douro entre a Ponte de D. Louis I and the beach Areinho (Gaia) , passei num local que denominado Capela do Senhor de Além. It was with sadness that I saw the complete abandonment and the great degradation that reached this beautiful place, onde há uns anos atrás se realizavam piqueniques, celebrations with music and fireworks in honor of his holy. Two of this chapel bells were removed by the Parish of Santa Marinha (Gaia) afim dos os preservar mas os restantes foram simplesmente furtados.

The history of this place is very interesting, showing the rivalry, even religious, existing between the inhabitants of both banks. In the year 1140, Bishop of Porto, D. Pedro Rebaldio, he built on the spot where now there is the Monastery of Serra do Pilar , a convent of nuns invocation to the holy St. Nicholas. Durante essa construção foi achada uma imagem do Senhor Crucificado e para recolher essa imagem foi edificada uma ermida no sítio onde actualmente existe a Capela do Senhor de Além.

In 1738, was also built in the same place a madhouse, Hospice of the Carmelites, which was situated opposite to that hermitage. Conflito religioso

A Capela de Santo António

Crê-se ser de 1079, situa-se junto à torre do relógio, no Castelo de Montemor. Edificada, segundo uns, no séc. XI e, segundo outros, no séc. XVI. Sofreu obras no séc. XIX, perdendo o seu carácter primitivo. Foi primeira matriz do Salvador. At present, está em avançado estado de degradação, reduzida às paredes e destelhada, desde as obras de reconstrução do Castelo em 1930.
É uma capela de uma só nave, com três altares. As Memórias Paroquiais de 1758 referem a existência no altar-mor das imagens de Santo António, S. Francisco e S. Jerónimo; num dos altares colaterais, a imagem de Nossa Senhora do Bom Sucesso e, no outro, S. Mateus. Desconhece-se o seu actual paradeiro.

A igreja de Santa Maria Madalena

Edifício de planta simples, de nave única e três capelas. Do que resta podemos observar, a porta principal em ogiva, por cima da qual existia uma fresta. O campanário manuelino com lugar para dois sinos ressalta da frontaria e conserva a sua forma primitiva. Sobre a porta do lado Sul vê-se a cruz de malta. No interior, mísula manuelina e uma lápide romana dedicada a Júpiter, que se encontrava na esquina da capela-mor, no cunhal da Epístola.
De origem medieval, foi uma das duas igrejas que D. Manuel I ressalvou da doação de 1500. Pertenceu à Coroa Real, teve priorado e anexo um hospital com o mesmo nome. Posteriormente, pertenceu aos Condes de Tentúgal, tendo sido sagrada pelo bispo de Coimbra, D. Manuel de Mello. Foi sede de uma das antigas paróquias de Montemor-o-Velho.
