Rosa Pena Mansion – Thorn

1

Situated on Espinho and occupying an entire city block, the Rosa Pena Palace is one of those buildings to which one can not remain indifferent.

According to the CM of the building dates from Espinho 1930, and from what I could ascertain in some internet sites, the mansion came to the state it is due to lack of success in negotiations between the CM of Espinho and the building owner, asking an exorbitant amount for the same…speculation. Up to today, there has never been an understanding between the CM and the heirs of Thorn owners, and apparently not among the heirs own! Should also mention that this space, in years 80, a core of support for the preparatory education, being by this time that the CM Thorn tried to purchase the building.

The building is currently very degraded and it seems that the risk of collapse is quite high. It should be noted that it was not possible to visit the inside, because the doors / windows were sealed to cement.

Finally, I leave here also information taken from the CM site Espinho:

The mansion Rosa Pena is by its dimensions and volumes game a unique work in the setting of City.

The mansion features a two-story elevation on a ground floor, to which the turret adds another level. The building architect fragmented into independent zones volumetrically, each with separate coverage, sending it a daring game of asymmetric volumes.

An iron gate, strategically placed at the street corner of Streets 19 and 26, allows access to the first floor by a staircase angle. Neste andar, which is notorious for lack of a noble gateway, opens a protruding balcony that runs the west and south elevation.

The windows feature a different treatment depending on the area of the building where they were placed.

It is worth highlighting the good work of monumental double windows and the application of tiled friezes and panels with floral motifs of beautiful ornamental effect.

I still find the usual pictures:

  1. There is clearly part of the heirs of other interests (speculative) involved… It is Expropriate!

The legislation allows the compulsory expropriation based
in public interest, but… há always some “but” Unclear,
    of permeio.
