Hotel Monte Palace – Azores

Description
Since the beginning of this project, that one of the places I most wanted to visit was this hotel in the Azores! It happened and it lived up to all expectations! At present, completely vandalized, the Hotel is still a great tourist spot on the island. (proof of this were the dozens of curious people inside it.) and it's a good place to contemplate, if the fog leaves, the magnificent Sete Cidades Lagoon. When walking through its corridors, seeing your frame, it's impossible to deny its grandeur….Amazing is how such an investment gets to the state it is in!

Location
São Miguel Island – Azores

Date of Visit
september 2019

Home Use

Historical Notes
in April 1989 Hotel Monte Palace opens, with stern and circumstance with the concert of Brazilian star Fafá de Belém, however, about a year and a half later and after receiving the Hotel of the Year award from 1990, the hotel unit declared bankruptcy. Derision? Random? Hard to say, but it was a hot topic in national tourism at the time.. After its closing, the unit was kept under surveillance until the year of 2011, however with the bankruptcy of the group that then owned the hotel and paid for the surveillance, the hotel was truly abandoned and looting began….bathtubs, irons, elevators, everything that could be taken out and had value was taken.

In 2017 the unit was acquired by the Level Constellation group, which planned to open the unit in this year of 2021, however, this will probably be very far from happening, and so a space that once had 88 bedrooms, 2 restaurants, a pub, a disco, game rooms, tobacconist, a bank, among other stores, will continue to abandon and fascinate and intrigue all the tourists who go to Vista do Rei on São Miguel Island!

And now photos…
