And when we go on vacation with some nice surprises from the point of view of the holding of vacant. This time it is a carcass of an old Dutch tug 17m doing now “shadow” a small beach in Vila Nova de Milfontes.
Here is the story and photos at the end:
In December 1996, the Clement departed Dutch Harbor Leewarden, bound for Portimão. On the night of 12 December, with good weather and calm seas, the ship ran aground near the "Stone of Patacho", very close to the WWTP Vila Nova de Milfontes. The reasons for success seem to be related to the inability of the four crew members, since none possessed the qualifications necessary for navigation on the high seas. The lack of documentation on the part of the crew and the lack of insurance and registration of the vessel, caused much is speculated regarding its involvement in illicit activities.
After a long game of "pushes", between various entities, to define who would be responsible for the removal of the tug, surge em 2003, the elusive given the Customs Delegation of Sines:
"The goods in question no longer has equity interest to the Treasury, so th V.Ex. can give you any other destination, particular consider it urban solid waste ".
It is as if to say, Now we can no longer make any money with it, you solve the problem.
The response of the House of Beja is acceptable and understandable:
"The council refused the proposal, therefore believes that it is not for you to solve the issue. The JBC has no technical means to remove a vessel from the beach with about 20 meters, or conditions to deposit such waste, that is anything but household waste and that neither Landfill Alentejo coast will be able to receive ".
Fifteen years after sinking, everything remains the same, no authority decided to take this gigantic piece of rusty metal, a beach situated in the Natural Park of Southwest Alentejo and Costa Vincentian.
